New and Returning Mystery and Thriller Series

Your Friends and Neighbors, Season 2
(Apple TV+)
The breakout hit where Jon Hamm stars as a down-on-his-luck Connecticut hedge funder turning to neighborhood theft returns for a new season. James Marsden is the big new addition to the cast, and sight-unseen he fits perfectly with what this series does best. Expect more slow-burn tension and that fine tightrope act where the lives of the affluent and privileged are simultaneously ogled and skewered.
Atomic
(Hulu)
This new thriller out of Britain stars Alfie Allen and Shazad Latif as strangers thrust together in the shadier corridors of atomic material smuggling in North Africa. It’s based on William Langewiesch nonfiction account of highly worrisome nuclear trafficking, Atomic Bazaar: The Rise of the Nuclear Poor. Steel yourself for a high-adrenaline chase story and some shocking revelations about the state of non-proliferation efforts.

Movie Night

The weekend’s big event for crime fans is the streaming release of Crime 101 (Prime), based on the novella by Don Winslow and directed by Bart Layton. Chris Hemsworth stars as the diamond thief working the SoCal 101 corridor, with Halle Berry’s insurance adjustor in cahoots and Mark Ruffalo’s detective in pursuit. The casting is spot on and Winslow’s story is a perfect, atmospheric gem of a thriller. If you happen to have access to Starz, or you don’t mind the rental/purchase option, The Housemaid, one of the year’s biggest and post persistent hits ($400m and counting), finally arrives on streaming this weekend, too. Starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, the story follows a young woman working as a live-in maid at a wealthy couple’s house and…well, some tensions arise. Paul Feig (A Simple Favor) directs, and the tone strikes a satisfying balance between suspense and camp, with Seyfried turning in a memorable performance. (Seyfried’s other big 2025 movie, The Testament of Anne Lee, is also now available to stream, if you want to make it a double feature.)
And 5 more movies new to the streaming libraries:
American Gangster (2007) (Netflix)
Spy Game (2001) (Prime)
A Few Good Men (Tubi)
The Score (2001) (Pluto)
Chinatown (1974) (Pluto)
