The Testaments
(Hulu)
I would check out this spinoff of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The Gilead story continues at Aunt Lydia’s, a regimented elite boarding school for girls, and features One Battle After Another’s Chase Infiniti playing a student, Agnes. “I guess it’s easier to accept a story than believe the people around you are monsters,” she says in the trailer for the series that showcases gorgeous costumes and cinematography. Based on Atwood’s novel of the same name.
Snowpiercer, 3 seasons
(Tubi)
Expect plenty of action and drama in a post-apocalyptic frozen world, where the last human survivors circle the earth in a constantly moving train. Based on the 2013 film of the same name by Bong Joon Ho, which, in turn, was based on a French climate-fiction graphic novel, Le Transperceneige. The beautifully illustrated graphic novel has now been translated into English and might be worth taking a look at as well.

Movie Night

The Criterion Channel has put together a great assembly of “corporate thrillers”—including Michael Clayton (2007) with George Clooney and Tilda Swinton; Sydney Pollack’s The Firm (1993) with Tom Cruise and based on the novel by John Grisham; and Oliver Stone’s Wall Street (1987) with Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas, and Darryl Hannah. They’re all what I think of as “guy films”—directed by men with men in the lead and lots of testosterone floating around, but they’re fast paced, entertaining, well directed and acted, and they challenge the masculinity and values that their corporate characters espouse.
And 4 more movies new to the streaming libraries:
Thrash (2026) (Netflix)
Bullet Train (2022) (Tubi)
The Godfather and The Godfather Part II (Pluto)
