Guys, guys, guys!!! There’s so much to discuss. Oh my goodness. I almost don’t know where to start. I’m breathless. Okay. I’ve got to calm down. I’ve got to breathe. Give me a moment.
Okay, I’m back. And wow… I’m so excited by this funny bit of news.
So, Andy Berman, writer and producer of the beloved show Psych, which aired on the USA Network from 2006 to 2014 during its famous “blue sky era” (a period of enormous success from shows like Psych, Monk, Burn Notice, White Collar, Royal Pains, Covert Affairs, Suits, and In Plain Sight, all united under the tagline ‘Characters Welcome'”), is, according to Deadline, considering a move back to the network with a new show.
After 2014, the USA Network tried to rebrand away from its recent successful streak with lighthearted shows and move towards darker entertainment. It adopted a new slogan, “We the Bold,” and aired series like Mr. Robot and Colony. I’m not going to summarize all the behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing done by network executives at USA or its parent companies, but suffice to say, after this, it pivoted to larger sports coverage. But now, reportedly, it’s coming back. A second season of the USA Network John Grisham adaptation The Rainmaker was ordered in October 2025. And now… and now… there might be another.
And it sounds so cool.
Berman is connected to a new project called Sherlock’s Secretary.
So, apparently, in real life, lots of people send letters to Sherlock Holmes, even though he’s a fictional character. Holmes receives so many letters that there is actually a person officially designated to open and answer them all. This is a job, a real job that people in real life can have.
Berman developed the project with unscripted producer Bruce Nash, who brought it to him. Nash said, “When I learned there was an actual person whose job was answering letters sent to Sherlock Holmes, I knew there was a television series hiding inside that story. Andy immediately saw a fresh way into the Sherlock universe, and I couldn’t be more excited to see it find a home at USA.”
So, their version looks like this:
“The series follows a quirky London woman whose job is responding to the thousands of letters addressed to the world’s greatest detective. After years of answering them, she unknowingly becomes the closest living thing to Sherlock Holmes — and begins investigating real mysteries arriving at 221B Baker Street.”
How fun is this???
Apparently, one of the consultants on the show is someone who formerly held this position in real life. “Gug Kyriacou serves as a consultant here after serving as the real-life Sherlock’s secretary for many years while working for Abbey National — a bank whose London campus on Baker Street encompasses 221B, Arthur Conan Doyle’s address for his literary creation.”
Guys, I’m so excited.
What did Berman have to say about possibly helming a new USA Network Renaissance with a Sherlock project? “I’m thrilled to be coming home to USA, a place that has always believed in smart, character-driven storytelling. I’m equally excited to once again have the opportunity to steal office supplies.”
