Ready or Not Has a Sequel!
And it co-stars David Cronenberg!
Six years ago, in the second review I’d ever written for this website, I sung the praises of the slasher film Ready or Not. “Ready or Not is a Bloody Good Time at the Movies,” I titled it, and, more than half a decade later, I stand by this title and my thesis.
And now… there’s a sequel. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. It’s due in theaters in April 2026.
The conceit is very Halloween 2: it begins in the hospital, right after the events of the first film. The original film is about a young woman (Samara Weaving) who marries into a wealthy family, only to discover that their wealth and status is the result of a devil’s bargain that requires them to occasionally sacrifice a new addition to the family in an elaborate game of “hide and seek.” The only way for her to prevail is to survive until dawn, and defend herself against any of the murderous family members who get in her way.
And in this sequel, after she’s made it through, she’s challenged by a powerful group connected to her in-laws’ family (also with a Satanic pact) to a DOUBLE OR NOTHING game of hide-and-seek, and they have to play, or they’ll kill her sister, Kathryn Newton! The actors in this group of deadly players include such luminaries as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand… and David Cronenberg.
Yes, David Cronenberg.
What a party THIS movie is going to be.
Anyway, well, a new trailer has just been released! Check it out.
