Hijack Season 2
(Apple TV)
Idris Elba returns as corporate negotiator Sam Nelson, this time on a subway train in Berlin. Expect high production values, high-stakes drama, plenty of action and of course, Idris Elba charisma. Season 1 took place on a flight from Dubai to London and was a crowd pleaser. Season 2 is getting mixed reviews but still may be worth a look.
Miami Vice
(Tubi)
Immerse yourself in 1980s vibes as Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) and Rico Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) fight drug traffickers and prostitution through the sun-drenched streets of Miami. Soak in the 80s music—Chaka Khan, anyone?—and the Italian sport coat over t-shirt over linen trousers and slip-on shoes styling. I haven’t seen the show in a long time and wonder how it’s aged. But back in the day, it felt like the coolest thing on TV.

Movie Night

The Zone of Interest (2023) (Prime Video) Jonathan Glazer’s quietly brilliant film about Rudolph Höss, the Aushwitz commandant and his wife and family who lead a seemingly normal life right next door to the death camp. Sandra Hüller (who was also terrific in Anatomy of a Fall and Project Hail Mary) gives a nuanced and understated performance as Höss’s wife. The film gets under your skin and left me with a lot to think about.
If you’re in the mood for something lighter, Agatha Christie-esque, and atmospheric, check out A Haunting in Venice (Hulu) (2023). The story takes place in a gloomy Venetian palazzo (two thumbs up!) and is loosely based on Christie’s Hallowe’en Party with Kenneth Branagh as Poirot (he also directed the film), the always fabulous Michelle Yeoh as the medium Joyce who’s been hired to conduct a séance, Camille Cottin (Call My Agent!), and Tina Fey as Poirot’s bestie and crime novelist, Ariadne Oliver.
And 5 more movies new to the streaming libraries:
Alien Romulus (2024) (HBO Max)
The Secret Agent (2025) (Prime Video) Link to review
The Assistant (2019) (Pluto)
Hijacked (2026) (Tubi)
Cat People (1942) (Criterion)
