It’s that time of year again, time for the crime and mystery community to celebrate its best and brightest while also reminding us just how vibrant and dynamic this genre is. That’s right, it’s time for the Edgars! This morning, the Mystery Writers of America announced the nominees for the 2019 Edgar Awards, honoring the year’s finest achievements in crime and mystery fiction, non-fiction, and television writing. The winners will be announced in April, which means you have three months to pore over the nominees and their fantastic new work while debating with your mystery-loving friends those eternal questions like whose existential despair is deeper, Walter Mosley’s or Lawrence Osborne’s, and whose vision of modern-day parenting is more subtly terrifying, Alison Gaylin’s or Leila Slimani’s? These questions and more will be answered—okay not exactly answered but they’ll be in the air—at the big MWA Gala Banquet on April 25, 2019, in New York City (the 73rd banquet!), where all the Edgar winners will be announced. Until then, we’re here to discuss.
Here they are, your nominees for the 2019 Edgar Awards.
